It goes without saying that cancer is a continually growing epidemic affecting more and more people at younger and younger ages. This is becoming more evident in cancers of the reproductive organs in women (uterine, ovarian, cervicle and breast) and prostate and breast cancer in males.
There are many reasons for the increase in these cancers including environmental contamination of our air and water, extremely poor dietary habits, sedentary lifestyles and high levels of stress. However, the greatest causative agent (and the least talked about) is our exposure to massive amounts of estrogens in our environment.
It is well-known in medical circles that estrogen causes the proliferation and overgrowth of tissue ultimately leading to cancer. That is why one of the side effects of estrogen therapy and the birth control pill is cancer!
Unfortunately, what very few people understand is that our daily environment is loaded with a myriad of toxic agents that are high in estrogen. These include pesticides, plastics, polystyrene, laundry and dishwashing detergents, perfumes, deodorants, hair sprays, vinyl, nail polish, PCB’s and dioxins from the burning of fossil fuels. The continual and accumulated exposure to these chemicals over time has led to an alarming rate of estrogen-based diseases such as endometriosis, fibroids, fibrocystic breasts, heavy or painful periods, erratic menstrual cycles,
infertility, menstrual migraine headaches and, ultimately, cancers of the reproductive organs including the ovaries, uterus, cervix and breasts. These harmful products, which we use extensively in our homes every day, are doused in aromatic aromas that are derived from estrogenic compounds that are highly destructive to human health. So, while these products (like Plug-Ins) may have wonderful aromas, they are deadly and should be completely eliminated from our environment. Only natural products containing pure essential oils should be used for household and hygienic purposes.
Another major source of estrogens is pesticides.
Contrary to what most people think, pesticides do not actually kill pests at all. They merely destroy the reproductive capacity of the insect by utilizing estrogen in the very same way the birth control pill prevents pregnancy in women. Is it any wonder that infertility is running so rampant in our society? Furthermore, pesticides contain petroleum-based chemicals that are estrogenic in their own right and cannot be washed off with water. So if your fruits and vegetables are not organic, then you are greatly increasing your exposure to estrogen.
Finally, another major source of estrogen in our environment comes from our diet. All hormones in our body are ultimately derived from cholesterol. Today’s diets, high in refined foods, sugars and fats greatly increases our cholesterol pool
which ultimately causes hormonal imbalances. Not only does that put us at great risk for heart and artery diseases but it is a major cause of reproductive cancers and other hormonal issues such as infertility, PMS, fibrocystic breast disease, ovarian cysts and endometriosis; all pre-conditions to cancer in and of themselves. A diet high in animal protein as well will compound the problem by converting estrogen into a highly carcinogenic form.
As you can see, estrogen is a highly destructive force in our environment that can lead to a plethora of conditions including terminal cancer. Increased estrogen levels in the body prevent the body’s ability to break down cholesterol into bile acids which then does not allow the liver to properly detoxify the body via the use of bile acids. This is where enzymes such as what is in Core Health Product’s Core Pack, Heart Health, and Digestive Health aid in the fat digestion of the cholesterol so that the liver does not become overly taxed. Enzymes are also crucial in the detoxification process due to their ability to remove old disease tissues throughout the body. Through a proper diet and detoxifying of the liver, one can ensure the neutralization and elimination of estrogens via the liver’s two phases of detoxification.
Phase I- Estrogen Detoxification
Estrogens are either converted to a weak (good) form or astrong (bad) form. Diets high in protein, particularly animal protein, cause the conversion of estrogens to the stronger, carcinogenic form while diets high in cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, arugula, cabbage, etc…)convert estrogens to their weaker, anti-carcinogenic forms. Furthermore, two supplements on the market today contain concentrated forms of the cruciferous phytonutrients which have proven to be very successful in neutralizing estrogen: Indole -3-Carbinole and Diindolylmethane(DIM).
Phase II Estrogen Detoxification
The neutralized estrogen byproduct must go through a methylation, sulphation or glucoronidation pathway to be conjugated and eliminated via the intestines or kidneys. To enhance these detoxification pathways high sulfur- containing foods (garlic, onions and cruciferous vegetables) are desirable. Very specific supplements may also be taken to enhance these pathways. They include: SAMe( s-adenosyl-methionine), TMG and DMG (Tri/Di methylglycine), NAC (N-acetylcysteine), Alpha-Lipoic Acid. While supplementing with these nutrients can play a vital role in therapy, a diet that includes high quality protein in the form of nuts, seeds, whole grains and legumes can ensure you get these same nutrients which your body will be able to utilize for the same therapeutic effects.
Nevertheless, knowledge is power and the human body, when given proper food, detoxification and supplementation, can thoroughly detoxify and neutralize the effects of estrogen via the liver. Below is a list of nutrients to incorporate as often as possible for the proper break down and elimination of excess estrogen.
- Enzymes– These powerful substances are needed daily to fully digest proteins, carbohydrates and fats as to not over tax the liver and pancreas.
- High-Lignan Flax Seed Oil– Lignans help to bind and neutralize estrogens and carry them out of the body.
- Kombucha Tea-The liver clears estrogen via a specifc pathway called the Glucoronidation pathway. Kombucha contains specific nutrients and chemicals conducive to that pathway.
- Cruciferous Vegetables– Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage convert estrogen to its anti-carcinogenic forms while grapefruit and oranges will help to carry it out thru the intestines.
These are just a few of a variety of things that can be done to deal with excess estrogen in our bodies and environment. To do an intense, annual estrogen cleanse would be highly beneficial and go a long ways in preventing estrogen-based diseases including cancer. Such a cleanse requires a knowledgeable, natural practitioner who can put you on a very specific nutritional, detoxification and supplement program designed for estrogen-based problems mentioned above.
